Pasco assistant principal arrested after Homeland Security …

A Pasco County assistant principal is being held at the Hillsborough County Jail following his arrest Monday afternoon after a Homeland Security investigation. Kyle Ritsema, 35, an assistant principal at Cypress Creek Middle/High School in Wesley Chapel, was taken into custody at his Land O’Lakes home, according to a Pasco County school district spokeswoman. He is being held without bail after his arrest by U.S.

Marshals following a Homeland Security investigation on a federal rule violation, jail records show. The nature of the charge was not immediately known, although the spokeswoman said it was not tied to his work at the school. Ritsema, who has been employed by the Pasco County School District since August 2006, was placed on paid administrative leave, the spokeswoman said.

He joined the Cypress Creek staff this year, its first in operation. Before working there, he was an assistant principal at Pine View Middle School in Land O’Lakes. School district crisis team members headed to both Cypress Creek and Pine View on Wednesday morning, for any students or staff who needed to talk or wanted counseling.

The district wasn’t providing any details to anyone, though, about the exact nature of the charges Ritsema faces. Ritsema did not have any grievances, reprimands or any other problems in his personnel file. This is a developing story.
